This was surprising, I thought it would be almost assured to be a pick for the Highway Patrol here.
I suppose there’s nothing stopping Ford from making tweaks and sending it back for the next round of testing. They’ve already lost some ground to the Volvo S60R’s which I have already seen on the mean streets of Canberra.

‘over heating trans’
wow. that doesnt bod well.

It took them 3 minutes to overheat the transmission. That has to be some kind of defect, so Ford kind of shot themselves in the foot with this one.

the weird thing is, the Mustang uses essentially the same auto trans as the Falcon (ZF 6HP26)
and they already know that it needs a trans cooler to meet the grade.

I bet all it needs is a cooler and a different tune. If they’re still anything like the ZF 6HP26 they’re based on it won’t be a lot of work. Weird that Ford dropped the ball.

As I commented on CT, if the tester has a defect, what does that say about buyers who are looking to purchase an entire fleet? I do think the Mustang is a perfect patrol car for Australia, but this first impression does not bode well.

You have to keep in mind how “police testings” go... They really destroy those things and gearbox take one hell of a beating (ie, reverse at 10mph, striaght into 1st gear, j-turn...etc etc etc)
